This is a beautiful Hoysala style temple located 28 km south of Chikmagalur town in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. Belavadi, also known as Ekachakranagara, is very near to the famous temple towns of Belur and Halebid. This temple was built in the 13th century by Veera Ballala II. While Belur and Halebid are famous for their intricate sculpture, this temple is one of the best examples of Hoysala architecture.

During the expansion of the Hoysala regime in 11th and 12th centuries, many towns were created and each of these had a separate temple. The ancient testament enveloped between palm and coconut farms is a fine illustration of Hoysala artwork. Amruteshvara Temple comprises a wide open mantapa (hall), a vimana (shrine) of ekakuta design and a closed mantapa connecting it with an open hall.

Open mantapa consists of 29 bays and the closed mantapa, encompasses 9 bays with a porch. This side porch connects it with another separate shrine on the south side of the temple. Superstructure of the square shaped shrine is carved with sculptures of Kirthimukhas (demon faces). A large stone inscription lying along the side the porch is an example of medieval Kannada poetry.

Belur is known as ‘Southern Banaras’, as it’s temples are as exquisite. The Chenakeshwara temple was built by the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhan in 117 A.D. to celebrate his conversion from Jainism to Vaishnavism.

Belur was the early capital of the Hoysala Empire. With Halebidu which is only 16 km away, this is one of the major tourist destinations in Karnataka. Belur is located in Hassan district. According to inscriptions discovered here, it was also referred to as Velapuri.

Ettina Bhuja is a peak that’s about 1300m tall, situated about 40kms away from Dharmasthala, which is the nearest major town. To begin the trek, you need to get down at a place called Kukkada which is about 20kms before you reach Dharmasthala. The magnificient cone shaped rock face cliff derives its name from Kurinji flower Strobilanthes kunthiana. Neelakurinji.The shrub that is found in the shola forests of the Western Ghats in South India. The purplish blue flowers of Neelakurinji blossoms gregariously only once in 12 years.

Narasimha Parvatha, also known as the Agumbe peak, is portion of the popular “Agumbe – Sringeri” trekking path. Narasimha Parvatha is situated 826 meters above sea level, Narasimha Parvatha is the tallest peak (roughly 3780 feet) in Agumbe Ghats. The vision from this peak is spectacular. You can see the numerous soft hues of the beautiful sky during sunset. The sunrise is also charming. The striking Kudremukh ranges are also noticeable from the top of hill.

Narasimha Parvatha is also a perfect location for Trekking in Chikmagalur. You need to have a Walking stick, Hiking shoes, Woolen clothes, Water, Juices, Snacks, Electric Torch, Medical kit, a good compass and an additional pair of clothes to trek at Narasimha Parvatha. It usually takes 4 to 5 hours to reach the peak from Kigga.

Tea Estate is located at Samse on the Kudremukh-Kalasa Highway in Chikmagalur district. 18 kms north-east of Chikmagalur town, this ancient tank is believed to have been constructed by Rukmangada Raya a chief of Sakrepatna. Rennovated later in 1156 A.D. during the Hoysala times, This large tank situated at the eastern base of the Baba-Budan range provides irrigation facilities to about 1,560 hectares of land. On a hillock here is the Prasanna Balleshvara shrine with Hoysala sculptures of Ganapathi, Surya, Krishna, Ambika, etc.

This is another large lake that lies close to the hills of Bababudangiri ranges. It is said that the lake was constructed as early as in 12th century. Ayyanakere is another place popularly used for shooting Kannada movies.

Seethalayanagiri is situated on the way to Mullayanagiri from Chikmagalur. The drive up the winding roads of Chandradrona hill on the way to Seethalayanagiri is very scenic. One can get some mesmerizing views from the top of the peak which is easily walkable from the parking area. Several visitors park their vehicles at Seethalayanagiri and trek to Mullayanagiri which is about 3 km from here.

There is also a small quiet temple dedicated to Seethala Mallikarjuna Swamy. ‘Seetha’ means damp in Kannada. The Shivlinga is always surrounded by water. Kemmannagundi is a hill station which is 1434m above sea level. This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station.Its a point on the highest peak of mountian range.

Jhari Waterfalls, also known as the Buttermilk Falls, is situated near Attigundi at a distance of 12 km from Baba Budangiri. This museum was built to reconstruct the thematic display of the history of coffee and the processes including picking, grinding and drying using which the bean was made. The museum offers one of the best coffee descriptions in the world. Except for a coffee tasting experience, it gives an all-inclusive experience. The coffee evaluation and training center is situated on the same ground as the coffee museum. Nestled in a lush green environment, a short stairway leads one towards the coffee encyclopedia.

The initiative of the Coffee Yatra Museum was taken forward by the Coffee Board of India. Offering an interesting approach towards the coffee business, the excellent documentary provided by the museum shows the origin and the growth of coffee in the region.

90 km west of Chikkamagaluru town is Sringeri situated on the banks of Tunga, a Vedic Peetha established by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of the Advaita philosophy in 9th Century A.D. It is famous for Vidyashankara Temple originally constructed by the Hoysalas and later completed by the founders of the Vijayanagar Empire and Sharada temple, an early 20th. century addition. In the Vidya Shankara shrine, there are 12 zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.
